MLB – Aug 1983 – This Week In Baseball – Highlights Yanks Pitchers Ron Guidry + Shane Rawley Shine

Ron Guidry was nicknamed “Louisiana Lightning” and “Gator”….and is a former MLB left-handed pitcher….who played his entire 14-year career for the New York Yankees….in a career that began in 1975….wherein he was a member of Yankees World Series Championship teams in 1977 and 1978.

Guidry won the AL Cy Young Award in 1978….after winning 25 games while losing only 3…..who also won five Gold Glove Awards….and appeared in four All-Star games. Guidry served as captain of the Yankees beginning in 1986….and remained so until he retired from baseball in 1989.

In 2003, the Yankees retired Guidry’s uniform number (49) and dedicated a plaque to him in Monument Park.

Shane Rawley is a former Major League Baseball pitcher…..who played all or part of twelve seasons in the majors from 1978 through 1989….for the Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins…..while being selected to the NL All-Star team in 1986 as a member of the Phillies. The next year, he won a career high 17 games, leading the NL in games started with 36…. who in his major league career had a record of 111 – 118….with 991 strikeouts….and a 4.02 ERA.
