DOG COMMENTARY:
The 1983 Major League Baseball All-Star Game was the 50th playing of the midsummer classic between the all-stars of the American League (AL) and National League (NL)….as the game was held on Wednesday, July 6, 1983, at Comiskey Park in Chicago, Illinois….the home of the Chicago White Sox of the American League. The game resulted in the American League defeating the National League 13-3…when the game occurred exactly 50 years to the date of the first All-Star game in 1933…. which is another vintage video featured in the Imasportsphile Baseball video library
The game resulted in the first American League win since 1971….and only their second win since 1963….as the 13 runs that the AL scored set a new record for one team in All-Star Game history….while the ten run margin of victory was the largest since the 12-0 American League victory in 1946. The game is perhaps best remembered for Fred Lynn’s third inning grand slam….which as of the 2016 All Star Game….is still the only grand slam in the history of the Midsummer Classic.
Like the 1st All Star Game that was played on this same day exactly 50 years before on July 6, 1933….in a game that featured 20 future Hall of Fame Members….this 1983 edition featured 16 future HOF players including…..C Gary Carter, 3B Mike Schmidt, SS Ozzie Smith, OF Andre Dawson, OF Tim Raines, C Johnny Bench, OF Carl Yastrzemski, SS Cal Ripken Jr., OF Reggie Jackson, OF Rickey Henderson, 1B Eddie Murray, OF Dave Winfield, SS Robin Yount, OF Jim Rice, 1B Rod Carew and 3B George Brett…. and any way you cut the pie….that is a line-up of talent that is hard to resist….so ENJOY !!!
Oh, FYI….you could buy a full year’s subscription of ESPN, The Magazine for $4.95 in 1983.
