Music – 1977 – Baseball Special – Mel Allen Does 1st Baseball Rap Song – Baseball Is Dream For Me

DOG COMMENTARY:

Man, it just doesn’t get any better than this….rap and baseball….a match made in Heaven….and starring Mel Allen…..I mean, maybe the greatest voice ever in baseball…..and definitely a legend behind the mike at the ole ball game…..for Mel Allen was very special….as his love for the game comes through every word he spoke….and how rare it is to have him speaking rap to baseball.

Mel Allen is a legendary American sportscaster….who is best known for his long tenure as the primary play-by-play announcer for the New York Yankees….as our Bone Daddy grew up listening to Allen during the peak of his career in the 1940’s, 1950’s and 1960’s….while growing up being a Yankees fan.  Mel Allen is arguably the most prominent member of his profession…..as his voice familiar to millions and millions of baseball fans….and even years after his death…..he is still promoted as having been “The Voice of the Yankees.”

In his later years, he gained a second professional life as the first host of This Week in Baseball….of which we have more than our fair share of these programs….as seen in this video herewith…..as it is an actual clip from a 1977 program.

In perhaps the most notable moment of his distinguished career….Mel Allen called Game 7 of the 1960 World Series between the Yankees verses the Pirates…. in which Bill Mazeroski hit a walk-off home run off Ralph Terry to win the fall classic for the Pittsburgh Pirates. This is the only walk-off home run ever to occur in a Game 7 of a World Series still to date in 2018.

Any way you cut the pie….this video is priceless to us at ImaSportsphile…..it is a piece of history that has never again been repeated…..as little did Mel Allen know how prolific the genre of rap music would be in the world of sports in 2018…..some 41 years later.
