There are more than a handful of wonderful Ray Charles videos in our music library that we cherish dearly….cuz in our books….there has never been anyone quite like Ray Charles….and we don’t think there ever will be again….for he like Chuck Berry….has been the subject of the only communications from outer space…..when we on Earth received radio frequencies from space requesting MORE CHUCK BERRY and MORE RAY CHARLES.
The genius of Ray Charles comes through in his performance of Everything’s Going My Way.…but what makes this video so golden is when John Belushi and the White Caucasians join Ray on stage for a “slightly less Black” version of one of Ray’s greatest hits I Can’t Stop Loving You…..as Belushi does Ray almost as good as Ray does Ray on the song.
Simply put, this video provides rare footage of the man whom his friends and fellow musicians called Brother Ray….while the rest of the world just referred to him as The Genius…..who pioneered the soul music genre during the 1950’s by combining blues, rhythm and blues, and gospel styles into the music he recorded for Atlantic Records…..while also contributing to the integration of country music, rhythm and blues, and pop music during the 1960’s….through with his crossover success on ABC Records….most notably with his two Modern Sounds albums.
