“Crying in My Sleep“ was the second single released fromSqueeze‘s ninth album, Play….while in the U.S….it was released only as a single-track, promotional CD….which reached # 14 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart. Squeeze are a British rock band that came to prominence in the United Kingdom during the new wave period of the late 1970’s….who continued recording in the 1980’s and 1990’s. In the UK, their songs “Cool for Cats”, “Up the Junction” and “Labelled with Love” were top ten chart hits. Though not as commercially successful in the United States, Squeeze had American hits with “Tempted”, “Hourglass” and “853-5937” …..and were considered a part of the Second British Invasion.
Jimmy Webb also wrote a song with this title….which was recorded by Art Garfunkel….as seen in this video herewith….and is on Garfunkel’s album Watermark. Garfunkel’s version was released as a single in 1977…..of which he performed in 1979 on the ever popular and still running….Saturday Night Live…and gues what!?!….were are simply “tickled pink” to have this live performance of Garfunkel in our treasure chest of vintage memories here at ImaSportsphile.
