Music – 1979 – The Blues Brothers – I Got Everything I Need, Almost + Trying to Get Next To You

The Blues Brothers are an American blues and soul revivalist band founded in 1978 by comedy actors Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi as part of a musical sketch on Saturday Night Live. Belushi and Aykroyd fronted the band, in character, respectively, as lead vocalist ‘Joliet’ Jake Blues and harmonica player/vocalist Elwood Blues. The band was composed of previously well-known musicians….and debuted as the musical guest on the April 22, 1978, episode of Saturday Night Live, opening the show performing “Hey Bartender”, and later “Soul Man”.

In 1978, the band released their debut album, Briefcase Full of Blues, and opened for the Grateful Dead at the closing of Winterland Arena in San Francisco. They gained further notoriety after spawning a Hollywood comedy film in 1980, The Blues Brothers.

After Belushi’s death in 1982, the Blues Brothers continued to perform with a rotation of guest singers and other band members. The band reformed in 1988 for a world tour and again in 1998 for a sequel film, Blues Brothers 2000

In this 1979 episode of Saturday Night Live…..the Blues Brothers perform “I’ve Got Everything I Need, Almost….along with the ever-popular “Trying To Get Back To You” …..and we a ImaSportsphile are “tickled pink” to have this video seen herewith in our treasure chest of vintage memories.

    Corporations suck.

    1. When this vintage video library was recorded in the 1970s and 1980s, these videos were played regularly at The Sports Place, Madison Square Garden in Austin,Texas….and all the networks (NBC, ABC etc sent letters expressing that the bar might be infringing on copyright…..but it never went further than that….even though the videos were constantly replayed at the bar for 20 years. So, we know that the 3400 that we have loaded on our site, plus the 10,000 more that we will post…..all might be copyright infringement….but it has been our stance that we do not charge any fee for any post…..and feel this is the real reason that nothing more has be done by the originators of the content….so, we will continue on thru the fog….but our question always remains that when video recorders came on the market….then the networks that originated the material knew that their content would be recorded and replayed….so, the NBCs of the world will only put copyright infringement on 1 video our of every 500 like videos that they don’t block….so, it is what it is….and we will keep on keeping on with posting our videos on this site
