Music – 1980 – NBC Special – Garrett Morris Sings Schubert – An Die Musik

DOG ASIDE:

Garrett Morris is an American comedian, actor, and singer….who was an original member of The Not Ready For Prime Time Players cast of the sketch comedy program Saturday Night Live….while appearing from 1975 to 1980. Morris also had a role as Junior “Uncle Junior” King on the sitcom The Jamie Foxx Show….which aired from 1996–2001….along with a starring role as Earl Washington on the CBS sitcom of 2 Broke Girls from 2011–2017. He was also in the sitcom Martin as Stan Winters, from 1992–1995.

Since we have in excess of 100 vintage episodes of Saturday Night Live in our ImaSportsphile comedy library that have yet been posted….we have a great deal of footage of Morris and his many memorable characters like Chico Escuela, the Domican baseball player for the New York Mets….Merkon, the leader of the Coneheads….along with impressions of Alex Haley, Anwar Sadat, Bob Marley, Chubby Checker, Diana Ross, Ella Fitzgerald, Hank Aaron, Idi Amin, James Brown. Jesse Owens, Ken Norton, Leon Spinks, Louis Armstrong, Martin Luther King, Jr., Mickey Rivers, Muhammad Ali, Pearl Bailey, Richard Pryor, Sammy Davis, Jr., Tina Turner and Thomas ‘Hitman’ Hearns….are examples of his extreme comedic talent….but my favorites of all that Garret Morris did on SNL was when they used his singing talent….as evidenced in this video herewith where he sings Schubert’s An Die Musik….as the first verse shows his beautiful voice….and the rolling text during the 2nd verse is hilarious….with the last two notes priceless….so, ENJOY!!!
