We have posted literally hundreds and hundreds of Austin City Limits (ACL) videos here at ImaSportsphile…. and each and every one them are absolute “gems and jewels and nuggets of gold” in our treasure chest of vintage memories…..for ACL is definitely one of the all time great television programs….which appeared on PBS….and was the original core for what has become an “international music scene” known since the turn of the 21st century in 2000….the millenium….Y2K (just for the Baby Boomers)….as Austin, Texas, home of ACL, has become known around the world as the “Live Music Capital of the World”…..and Austin City Limits has been a huge part of that evolution.
The best part of all of that is the reality that we have ACL performances that span from 1976 to 1989…. which consisted of the original format featuring country, western, folk, blues and bluegrass artists….as evidenced by the theme song of ACL from 1977 to 2004 (seasons 2–29)….when Austin City Limits used Gary P. Nunn’s “London Homesick Blues” as the show’s theme song….while from 1982 to 1998 (seasons 7–23) the opening theme music was performed by John Mills.
Talk about “gems and jewels and nuggets of gold”….seen in this video herewith are three music legends in their own right individually….as all are on stage at Austin City Limits….including Willie Nelson, who needs no introduction….Ray Benson and Asleep At The Wheel, who are pillars of the Austin music scene….and fiddling virtuoso Johnny Gimble, who carried on with Texas swing music where Bob Wills left off….as all three of these artist are in the Music Hall of Fame….and here they are singing a great old swing / jazz tune “Believe Me Lil Darlin’ I Don’t Mind….it just doesn’t get any better than this.
