Music – 1981 – Bobby Womack – America The Beautiful – Sung At Heavywt Title Fight Of Ali Vs Berbick

Bobby Womack (March 4, 1944 – June 27, 2014) was an American singer, songwriter, musician and record producer….who started out in the early 1960’s as the lead singer of his family musical group The Valentinos….as well as being Sam Cooke’s backing guitarist….as Womack’s career spanned more than 60 years….with multiple styles that included R&B, soul, rock and roll, doo-wop and gospel.

Womack was a prolific songwriter….who wrote and originally recorded with his brothers, the Valentinos, the Rolling Stones’ first UK # 1 hit, “It’s All Over Now”…. alond with New Birth’s “I Can Understand It”.  As a singer, he is most notable for the hits “Lookin’ for a Love”, “That’s the Way I Feel About Cha”, “Woman’s Gotta Have It”, “Harry Hippie”, “Across 110th Street”….and his 1980’s hits “If You Think You’re Lonely Now” and “I Wish He Didn’t Trust Me So Much”.   

In this video seen herewith….Bobby Womack sings “America The Beautiful” in the ring, prior to the World Heavyweight Boxing Bout between Muhammad Ali verses Trevor Berbick in The Battle In The Bahamas in 1981….which was Ali’s final fight.

In 2009, Bobby Womack was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.
