Music – 1981 – March On Bahamaland – Sung At Heavywt Bout Of Muhammad Ali Vs Trevor Berbick

March On, Bahamaland is the national anthem of the Bahamas. It was composed by Timothy Gibson as part of a national competition and was adopted in July 1973….as the words of anthem are as follows:

Lift up your head to the rising sun, Bahamaland;
March on to glory, your bright banners waving high.
See how the world marks the manner of your bearing!
Pledge to excel through love and unity.

Pressing onward, march together
to a common loftier goal;
Steady sunward, tho’ the weather
hide the wide and treacherous shoal.

Lift up your head to the rising sun, Bahamaland,
‘Til the road you’ve trod lead unto your God,

MARCH ON, BAHAMALAND

…..which was sung at the 1981 heavyweight boxing match between Trevor Berbick verses Muhammad Ali….as this was Ali’s final fight of his illustrious and legendary career….albeit a fight that should never have been fought….at least, that’s our opinion here at ImaSportsphile.
