Music – 1981 – Ed Bruce & The Tennessee Cowboy Band – Texas (When I Die) – Live At Austin City Limit

Texas (When I Die) is a song co-written and originally recorded by American country music artist Ed Bruce….as his version peaked at # 52 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in 1977…..while the song was covered by American country music artist Tanya Tucker….which was initially as the B-side of another cover with Buddy Holly’s “Not Fade Away”….which was released in November 1978 as the first single from her album TNT…..as it charted at # 5 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart…..and throughout the 1980’s, the song was used as the Dallas Cowboys’ touchdown song at their home games.

Ed Bruce is an American country music songwriter, singer and actor….who is known for writing the 1975 song “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys”….and recording the 1982 country # 1 hit “You’re the Best Break This Old Heart Ever Had”…..as Bruce also co-starred in the television series Bret Maverick with James Garner during the 1981-82 season.
