Music – 1981 – Michael Murphey & The Great American Honky Tonk Band – Cosmic Cowboy – Live At ACL

Coca-Cola Cowboy is a song written by Steve Dorff, Sandy Pinkard, Sam Atchley and Bud Dain….and recorded originally by American country music artist Mel Tillis…..which was released in June 1979….as the first single from the album Mr. Entertainer. The song was featured in the film, Every Which Way but Loose, starring Clint Eastwood….and in the film Bandit Goes Country….in which Tillis also appeared…. while starring Brian Bloom.

“Coca-Cola Cowboy” was Tillis’ fifth # 1 on the U.S. country singles chart….where it spent one week at the top….with a total of eleven weeks on the chart.

As seen in this video herewith…..Michael Martin Murphey & The Great American Honky Tonk Band perform their rendition of “Coca-Cola Cowboy” live on stage at Austin City Limits in 1983…..for we here at ImaSportsphile are “tickled pink” to have both Mel Tillis and Michael Murphey versions in our treasure chest of vintage memories.
