The “Hymn to Liberty“ or “Hymn to Freedom“ is a poem written by Dionysios Solomos in 1823….which consists of 158 stanzas….and is used as the national anthem of Greece and Cyprus. It was set to music by Nikolaos Mantzaros…..and is the longest national anthem in the world by length of text. In 1865, the first three stanzas (and later the first two) officially became the national anthem of Greece….and from 1966 also that of Cyprus.
As seen in this video herewith….the “Hymn to Liberty” is played by the 800 strong All American Olympic Band….as the Greek flag is being taken down at the Closing Ceremony of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
