Bone Daddy, the original Sportsphile, speaks often about how much he enjoyed watching the halftime shows of The Showband of the Southwest…..known as the Texas Longhorn Marching Band….while attending the University of Texas from 1965 to 1970…..as this video seen herewith….goes a long way to explain why he enjoyed getting to the UT home games early and in time to watch the UT band come into the stadium….while performing prior to the start of each contest…..as he has said “the pregame was always fun and up tempo….whereas, the halftime show was always a huge production of precision marching and big sound tracks of popular marches and songs.”

The halftime performance of The Showband of the Southwest at the 1985 Red River Shootout between the University of Texas verses the University of Oklahoma game provides a wonderful example of just how talented this 375 person strong marching band was….cuz after watching this video….you can clearly understand why Bone Daddy has such fond memories of the Longhorn Marching Band.
