“The Greatest Love of All“ is a song written by Michael Masser…..who composed the music….while Linda Creed wrote the lyrics…..which was originally recorded in 1977 by George Benson…..who made the song a substantial hit by peaking at # 2 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart that year….which was the first R&B chart top-ten hit for Arista Records. The song was written and recorded to be the main theme of the 1977 film The Greatest, a biography of Muhammad Ali….who just happens to be Bone Daddy’s (the Original Sportsphile‘s all time favorite athlete and human being….cuz BD knows that Ali, from a demographic standpoint, was the most well known human being on the face of the Earth….who had incredible athletic skills….but more importantly had even greater human skills….plus, Ali the man had a huge heart….which lived each day with nothing but love in that huge heart….for Ali was about LOVE…and for those Christians of the world….isn’t that what Jesus was about….and the same for Allah….or any other worshiped…anyway, “The Greatest Love of All” was written for the film The Greatest ….which is of the boxer Muhammad Ali…..and the song is performed during the opening credits. Eight years after Benson’s original recording, the song became even more well known for a version by Whitney Houston….whose 1985 cover….with the slightly amended title “Greatest Love of All”…. eventually topped the charts while peaking at # 1 in the United States, Australia, Canada and on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs in early 1986.
