During the decade of the 1980’s, the Orange Bowl Classic was known for its halftime show…..which was typically a production of the highest order…..and if the 1988 Orange Bowl featuring the # 1 Oklahoma Sooners verses the # 2 Miami Hurricanes didn’t create enough excitement…..which it did with a truly great match-up in a truly great game…..whereas the halftime show was equally exciting…..while featuring two Broadway stars, Leslie Uggams and Lee Roy Reams in a production tittled “Bright Lights and Big Town Music”……in a rendition of a collection of “song and dance” songs like Chicago, My Kind of Town, Lights Of New Orleans, New York New York and Moon Over Miami are performed as the halftime Broadway production takes the viewers on a tour of big town music across the USA.

The 1988 Orange Bowl was an American college football bowl game between the Miami Hurricanes and the Oklahoma Sooners. It was the 54th edition of the Orange Bowl and took place at the Orange Bowl stadium in Miami, Florida on January 1, 1988…..as Miami was coached by Jimmy Johnson and Oklahoma was coached by Barry Switzer…..when Miami won the game by a score of 20 – 14…..and to date, it is the only time the opposing head coaches from a college national championship football game each later served as head coach of the same professional football team…..which also won the Super Bowl with that team, that team being the Dallas Cowboys.

  • The Murmanschanns, what a duo, I remember them from this show, the Muppets, Sesame Street and other shows. They are the most unique mime artists to grace this Earth. I thought they were amazing and these two routines prove it.
