I can honestly say that there is nothing in Bone Daddy’s entire 2300 hours of vintage videos that I am in process of posting here at Ima Sportsphile that brings a bigger smile to my face than his incredible compilation of live Austin City Limits concerts….cuz like Bone Daddy, I was raised on the music that is showcased in these live concerts.
In this Best of Austin City Limits video the viewer gets to hear some of the all-time great singers and songs as Marty Robbins kicks it off with “Out In The West Texas Town Of El Paso”….which is then followed by the first cheating song ever written and recorded as Texas born Floyd Tillman sings his country classic “Slippin Round”…..then comes what is probably the most popular country and western song….which has been recorded over and over by dang near every band or group that had a fiddle in the band….as “The Orange Blossom Special” is performed by Mel Tillis and The Statesiders, Merle Haggard and The Strangers, The Charlie Daniels Band, Johnny Gimble and The Nashville Super Pickers and The Earl Scruggs Revue….for when you consider these five groups, that makes this video absolutely priceless….and if that isn’t enough….this video finishes off with two legendary guitarists, Roy Clark and Gatemouth, performing a special rendition of Count Bassie’s “One O’Clock Jump”.
Any way you cut the pie….this video is a piece of country music history….and a real treasure in our Ima Sportsphile music library….which makes it MUST SEE TV for any fan of Austin City Limits.
