Music – July 4th 1986 – John Williams & The Boston Pops – Medley Of John Phillip Sousa March Songs

Bone Daddy, the original Sportsphile, served as an “officer and gentleman” three years in the U S Army from 1970 to 1973…..as a commander of the duty train (Army) that ran from Berlin to Frankfurt in Germany…..and as a member of the US Army Berlin Brigade….they were often required to get into “full dress uniform” and march with the entire Brigade for ceremonies of significance throughout the year….of which BD has often commented on how much he enjoyed marching in unison with the Berlin Brigade Band….as they played many John Phillip Sousa march songs to include “Stars and Stripes Forever”, “The Liberty Bell”, “The Thunderer”, “The Washington Post”“The Guardian” and “Semper Fidelis”….so, when he walked into the office today while I was posting this video….he immediately went into his position of “attention, present arms”…..and proceeded to provide march instructions as he performed such march moves as “oblique right”…..“to the rear, march” around the room…..and you know what, the old man could still perform drill as he did back in the early 1970’s.

As seen in this video herewith…..conductor John Williams and The Boston Pops Orchestra perform a medley of John Phillip Sousa marches…..including “The Stars and Stripes Forever”, “The Thunderer”  and “Semper Fidelis”…..as the immense crowd at the 1986 July 4th Lady Liberty Celebration in New York Harbor stood with resounding applause to the patriotism that this medley of songs brought from within every attendee…..as well as me and Bone Daddy in our office…..for it was truly a moving moment….as it exemplifies the vastness of great memories in our treasure chest of vintage videos here at ImsSportsphile.
