DOG COMMENTARY:
Bone Daddy graduated from the University of Texas in Austin, TX in 1970….and his blood runs burnt Orange….for he absolutely loved this video….cuz getting to post a Longhorn victory over the vaunted Crimson Tide from Alabama in the Cotton Bowl Classic in any year….certainly brings a smile to his face….still today….shoot, he’d make you sit down and watch this video below with him….I can hear him now….“yeah, sit down, you’re gonna enjoy this butt-kicking the Longhorns give the Tide sending that ole Bear running back to Alabama with his tail between his legs”.
The 1982 Cotton Bowl Classic was a post-season college football game played on January 1, 1982….with the # 6 Texas Longhorns took on the #3 Alabama Crimson Tide….as both teams entered the matchup with identical 9–1–1 records. Alabama was co-champion of the Southeastern Conference who had been ranked # 2 after their first game….but a loss to Georgia Tech and a tie four weeks later knocked them out of contention….even though they would go on to win the SEC title….due to them having a perfect SEC record along with Georgia. Their win over Auburn the previous game gave Bryant his 315th win….for the legendary coach would go on to win 323 games. The Longhorns, on the other hand, were ranked # 1 before playing Arkansas in their 5th game of the season….but they lost to the Razorbacks and a tie to Houston three weeks later knocked them out of serious championship contention.
Entering the fourth quarter trailing by 10….the Longhorns scored their first points with a quarterback draw by Robert Brewer on a 3rd-and-long with 10:38 remaining. On Texas’ next possession, Terry Orr scored from eight yards out to cap an 11-play, 80-yard drive to put the Longhorns up 14-10 with 2:05 remaining. Alabama’s Joey Jones returned the ensuing kickoff to the Texas 38-yard line….when Alabama QB Walter Lewis took over with 1:54 left….then on the very next play….Longhorns safety William Graham picked off a Lewis pass at the one….and took a safety to insure better field position and make the final score 14 – 12.
What a game!!!….and when you beat a legend called Bear in a post-season bowl game….and are one of only 85 teams to beat The Bear that had 323 wins….I mean, does it get any better than that!?!!….and that is why this video is MUST SEE TV for all Texas Longhorn fans….and all Alabama haters.
