This game was played on November 12, 1983 at Texas Memorial Stadium….with a kickoff at 1pm….as television coverage of the game was carried by Home Sports Entertainment Network (HSE) featuring Bill Worrell and Mickey Herkowitz on the mike calling the game.
The 1983 Texas Longhorns football team finished the regular season with an 11–0 record….after being ranked # 2 in the country all season long….but lost their chance at another national title when they lost to Georgia in the Cotton Bowl Classic by a score of 10 – 9. The Horns featured such outstanding players as OG Doug Dawson, K Jeff Ward, DT Tony Degrate, DB Jerry Gray, LB Jeff Leiding, RB Terry Orr, DE Eric Holle, P John Teltschick, WR Everrett Gay, CG Mossy Cade, TE William Harris and RB Edwin Simmons.
Although the TCU Horned Frogs finished the 1983 season with 1–8–2 overall and 1–6–1 in the Southwest Conference play….first year Head Coach Jim Wacker had his out-manned team ready to play against the undefeated Longhorns on this November afternoon in Austin, Tx….as the game would prove to be a hard fought defensive battle that ended in a 20 – 14 win for the Horns….when at the end of this 1st half….the Horned Frogs were up by a score of 14 – 3.
