NCAA Football – 1984 – SWC Game of Week – # 1 Texas Longhorns VS Arkansas Razorbacks – 2nd Half

DOG ASIDE:

The 1985 Texas Longhorns entered their Southwest Conference football game on October 19th at Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville, AR before 53,212 rabid Hog fans there to support their # 4 ranked Razorbacks….as the Horns came in with a record of 3 – 1….having lost a close 14 – 7 game with # 2 ranked OU the week before….when they faced off against their arch rival the Arkansas Razobacks.

During the tenure of the Southwest Conference….whenever the Razorbacks lined up against the Longhorns…..every game was without question, a huge rivalry game….as it did not matter which team had the better players….this SWC game was always a hard fought battle between two programs that frankly did not like each other….and 1985 was no exception. The Razorbacks entered this game with a 5 – 0 record and ranked # 4 in the country under 2nd year head coach Ken Hatfield….as this game proved to be a typical brawl between the Horns and the Hogs….as Texas would pull out a 15 – 13 victory in a game that was statistically even offensively…..with “snot-snorting, spit slappin” defense that was typical of this rivalry.

Any time the Horns lined up against the Hogs during the years of the vaunted Southwest Conference…..it was sure to be a tough, hard-nosed confrontation that was always enjoyable and entertaining to watch….and 1985 was no exception….cuz this was an awesome game.
