During the 1985 Texas Longhorn football season….two very talented freshman running backs….Eric Metcalf and Charles Hunter….of whom this interview seen herewith features.
Eric Metcalf would finish his Longhorn career after making the All-SWC Team three years in a row….while winning the 1987 SWC Player of the Year Award ….after which he got drafted # 13 by the Cleveland Browns….which led to a 14 year NFL career with 7 different teams….while making NFL All-Pro Team on 3 different times in his career.
Charles Hunter would complete his freshman year as the all-time freshman rushing record of 717 yards on 155 carries for an average of 4.6 yards per carry….which is pretty darn good for any running back…. especially a freshman. Hunter would sustain a severe knee injury in the 2nd game of his 2nd season at UT….and would never really return to the field again in his career at Texas.
What impressed us at ImaSportsphile in this interview was how articulate and well-spoken Charles Hunter was in this interview….so, we are sad that such a promising career was cut short….for such an outstanding young man.
