NCAA Football – 1985 – SWC Game of the Week – Texas Longhorns VS TCU Horned Frogs – 1st Half

DOG ASIDE:

The 1983 Texas Longhorns football team represented the University of Texas at Austin in the 1983 NCAA Division I-A football season…..as te Longhorns finished the regular season with an 11 – 0 record and lost to Georgia in the Cotton Bowl by a score of 9 – 10….thus losing their shot at another National Championship….whereas the 1983 TCU Horned Frogs football team ….which was coached by Jim Wacker finished the season at 1 – 8- 1 overall and 1 – 6 – 1 in the Southwest Conference. The Frogs played their home games in Amon G. Carter Stadium, which is located on campus in Fort Worth, Texas.   This Southwest Conference Game of the Week was played on November 12, 1985 at Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin TX…..as the Longhonrs pulled off a 20 – 0 win over TCU in front of 61,156 fans.

This Longhorn team was very special and well worthy of being crowned National Champions featuring many outstanding players to include the likes of three All-Americans in DB Jerry Gray, DT Tony Degrate and OL Doug Dawson….with some top shelf players like QB Robert Moerschell, RB John Walker, RB Terry Orr and WR Billy Boy Boyd. The Longhorns lost a heartbreaker to the Dawgs of Georgia in the Cotton Bowl….or they would have taken the top spot in the country.

This SWC Game of the Week with the TCU Horned Frogs was a really good game…..in which the Frogs took a surprising 14 – 3 halftime lead…..as the game would end up a 20 – 14 win by the Horns.
