DOG COMMENTARY:

The 1985 Texas Tech University Red Raiders football team in the Southwest Conference (SWC) during the 1985 NCAA Division I-A football season….as they were In their fifth and final season under head coach Jerry Moore…when the Red Raiders compiled a 4–7 record (1–7 in the SWC)…while outscoring opponents by a combined total of 249 to 240 (largely on the strength of a 63-7 victory over TCU)….and finishing in eighth place in the conference. The team played its home games at Clifford B. and Audrey Jones Stadium in Lubbock, Texas.

The 1985 University of Texas Longhorns football team were a member of the Southwest Conference in the 1985 NCAA Division I-A football season.  The Longhorns were led by players like QB Bret Stafford, RB Eric Metcalf, DT Troy Steelhammer, LB Britt Hager, WR Everett Gay, C Gene Chilton, DB Tony Jefferies, TB Charles Hunterr, SS John Hagy and TE William Harris to an 8–3 regular season record…..and then lost to Air Force in the Bluebonnet Bowl.

This Raycom Sports SWC Game of the Week featuring Merle Harmon and Coach Bud Wilkerson on the mikes calling the game….that was played on Saturday, November 2, 1985 at Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, TX….as 65,137 fans filled the stadium to watch a hard-fought mostly defensive ballgame….a game that came one week after the Longhorns had taken a 44 – 14 shellacking from the Ponies at SMU…..so, it was good to them come out on top with a 34 – 21 victory over their rival Red Raiders.

For any and all college football fans….this SWC game of the week is well worth the watch. ENJOY!!!

  • The Murmanschanns, what a duo, I remember them from this show, the Muppets, Sesame Street and other shows. They are the most unique mime artists to grace this Earth. I thought they were amazing and these two routines prove it.
