NCAA Football – 1985 – SWC Game of Week – Texas Longhorns VS Arkansas Razorbacks – 2nd Half

DOG ASIDE:

Back in the day from the 1960’s through the 1980’s….that is when the Texas Longhorns verses the Arkansas was always a bitter rivalry….with it seemed like every game being played had national championship implications….as it all started when two legends of college football coaching were at the helm….with Darrell K. Royal at Texas….and Frank Broyles at Arkansas.  By the time the mid-1980’s rolled around when this game was played….the rivalry was apparent as ever….as Texas entered the game being ranked # 17….while Arkansas was ranked # 4.

This 2nd half was an outstanding half of football….just like the 1st half was….which ended at 7 – 6 in favor of the Razorbacks….the final half was a hard-nosed, tough defensive battle between these two long-time rivals…..who were led by head coach Fred Akers for the Longhorns….and Ken Hatfield for the Hogs.

This game was aired on ABC with the broadcast team of Rex Grossman and Al Trautwig at the mike….while Jim Lampley was in the studio.  The game was played on October 19, 1985 in front of 53,212 fans at Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville, Arkansas….as the Longhorns would pull out a 15 – 13 victory in a place that was very difficult to win as an incoming opponent….especially a rival like Texas…..which makes this game worthy of watching by any and all college football fans.
