The 1985 Texas Longhorns football team represented the University of Texas at Austin in the 1985 NCAA Division I-A football season in the Southwest Conference….finishing the season with 8 wins 3 losses….while finishing the Soutwest Conference with a 6 win 2 loss record….finishing in a tie with # 12 Arkansas University and # 17 Baylor University.. The Longhorns then played the # 11 Air Force Academy in the Bluebonnet Bowl…..losing by a score of 24 – 16…..in a game that UT outrushed the Falcons 214 yds. to 189 yds….and outpassed the “Flyboys” 88 yds. to 5 yards….so the game was a whole lot closer than the score appeared.
This game was played on November 2, 1985 at Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium in Austin, TX…..as the Longhorns were led by QB Bret Stafford, RB Edwin Simmons and WR Eric Metcalf to a 34 – 21 victory over their rivals the Texas Tech Red Raiders….who were led by QB Billy Joe Tollivar, RB James McGowen and WR Wayne Walker….for this was a hard fought game between two teams who just typically did not like each other….which makes this video well worth the watch..
