The 1986 Cotton Bowl Classic was an American college football bowl game played on January 1, 1986 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas. It was the 50th Cotton Bowl Classic held….in a game that featured the Texas A&M Aggies and the Auburn Tigers….who feature one of the all-time great college running backs in Bo Jackson….as Bo was bemg Bo on this day….in a season in which he rushed for 1,786 yards and won the Heisman Trophy….for a team that had at one point was ranked # 1 before losing to Tennessee….as they finished the season with an 8 – 3….but that was only good for 6th in the SEC….after finishing behind the 3 teams that had beaten them in Tennessee….Florida…. and Alabama.
In this 50th Cotton Bowl Classic….Jackson started the scoring for Auburn with a touchdown run early in the game after a fumble recovery…..to which the Aggies responded with their own touchdown run by Harry Johnson….then they scored just three minutes later….but the score was only 12–6 in favor of A & M due to a missed extra point and a failed conversion attempt. Bo Jackson stuck back for Auburn by catching a 73-yard touchdown pass from Pat Washington to give Auburn the lead again…when they also missed the conversion attempt…..after which Aggie kicker Scott Slater made a 26-yard field goal to give A & M the lead again at halftime, 15–13.
The pregame show in this video featured A & M Coach Jackie Sherrill’s pregame speech about how well prepared his team was….as he had his players reflect on their training just to get to this game…..then comes a really informative and enteresting piece regarding the man and story behind the Aggies 12th Man…..which along with the 1st Quarter of the game….makes this an enjoyable video to watch.
