The 1985 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships were contested in March 1985 at the Texas Swimming Center at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas at the 62nd annual NCAA sanctioned swim meet to determine the team and individual national champions of Division I men’s collegiate swimming and diving in the United States….as the men’s and women’s titles would not be held at the same site until 2006.
Stanford University topped the team standings….which was the Cardinal’s second men’s title and first since 1967…..as they ran away with the team competition with 403.5 points to beat out the 2nd place Florida Gators with 329 points….as well as the 3rd place home-team Texas Longhorns….who came in with 309 points.
Outstanding performers in this National Championship meet included Auburn University’s outstanding freestyle sprinter Rowdy Gaines…..Texas University’s backstroke world champion Rick Carey…..and University of California super freestyle and butterfly sensation Matt Biondi…..and of course, the Stanford Cardinals outstanding breaststroke world champion John Moffett….along with butterfly and freestyle phenom Pablo Morales…..all of whom won multiple medals in multiple Olympic games….so, this event sported a sensational casts of great swimmers….which makes this MUST SEE TV for any and all swimming enthusiasts.
