NCAAM Basketball – 1980 – SWC Game Of The Week – Texas Longhorns Vs SMU Mustangs – 1st Half

DOG ASIDE:

LaSalle Thompson, the behemoth center for the 1980 University of Texas Longhorns Men’s Basketball team was a frequent visitor at Bone Daddy’s bar, Madison Square Garden, The Sports Place at 302 E. 6th Street in Austin, TX….whereby each time that he came in the doors….he’d ask Bone Daddy to put on current Longhorns basketball games that he had recorded….then LaSalle would go to the Order Station to order food to eat while he watched recorded videos like this one herewith.

LaSalle was so big, he took up two spaces at the counter where patrons ordered food….plus he was so tall, he had to bend down to make his order…..and when he opened his mouth to order….this monster of a man had a high-pitched voice like Mike Tyson….when he’d say “I want three of those MSG Specials….and can you give me tater tots with lots of gravy instead of fries?”  Now folks, that was 1.5 pounds of meat, 3/4 pound of bacon, 1/2 pound of cheese, 1/2 whole onion, 1 whole large tomato, 2 whole pickles and 1/2 packet of six big hamburger buns, plus 2 lbs of tater tots and 9 oz of cream gravy….so, all in all….that’s about 6 lbs. of food that LaSalle Thompson would consume while watching his Horns play ball.

LaSalle Thompson would score 21 points and take down 11 rebounds in this the 1st half of this game against the SMU Mustangs….for games like this bring back some wonderful memories fo Abe Lemon’s and his boys…..and how much food they could pack away at one sitting.
