The Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team represents The University of Texas at Austin in NCAA Division I intercollegiate women’s basketball competition. The Longhorns currently compete in the Big 12 Conference….as a team that has long been a national power in women’s basketball….especially under the guidance of head coach Jody Conradt….who is the 2nd NCAA Division I basketball coach to win 900 career games (after Tennessee’s Pat Summitt)….as her Lady Longhorns won the 1986 national championship. After 31 years at the helm at Texas….Jody Conradt retired after the 2006–07 season….with a career record of 900 wins to 307 losses….and was replaced by Duke head coach Gail Goestenkors.
Since 1977, Texas women’s basketball has played its home games in the Frank Erwin Special Events Center….where the team has compiled a 399–76 (.840) record as of March 5, 2008. The Lady Horns were ranked # 1 in the country in 1984 and 1985….then again in 1986 as the AP #1 ranked team….on their way to winning every single game by achieving a record of 34–0…..while posting the first of four undefeated seasons in women’s basketball during the NCAA era (since 1982).
The Western Kentucky Lady Toppers basketball team represents Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky…..as a team that competes in the NCAA Division I as a member of Conference USA. The current head coach of the Lady Toppers is Michelle Clark-Heard. The Lady Hilltoppers have appeared in the Women’s NCAA Tournament 19 times. They were NCAA Runners-up in 1992 and made Final Four appearances in 1985 and 1986.
This 1986 Lady Longhorn team was something special….as they would destroy the Lady Hilltoppers in this National Semifinals Game by a score of 90 – 65 on their way to winning the 1986 Women’s National Championship.
