NFL – 1980 – Special – Super Bowl XV – Raiders VS Eagles – Road To New Orleans & Game 4th Qtr

DOG ASIDE:

In this the 2nd half of NBC Sports pre-Super Bowl XV special….they bring in their 1st team of broadcasters, Dick Enberg and Merlin Olsen, to take over the analysis and pregame interviews….with Eagles Coach Dick Vermeil and Raiders Coach Tom Flores.

The program then shifts to the playing field where ex-QBs’ Len Dawson and John Brodie review highlights of how both teams made it to New Orleans for Super Bowl XV…..which is followed by an exceptional piece on Green Bay Packers Coach Vince Lombardi….and how he to the Packers from the cellar to the penthouse by winning 6 NFL Championships (5 in the decade of the 1960’s)….as well as wins in Super Bowls I and II.

NBC Sports does an unusual piece on the Broadway musical “Ain’t Misbehavin'” …..while tying it to the wonderful City of New Orleans….with their exceptional music and world renown food….which Bone Daddy says as distinctive and delicious as any he has ever had…..and comparable with cuisine in Paris, Montreal, Chicago, New York or San Francisco.

NBC’s Pete Axethelm then provides an in depth look at the tenuous relationship between Oakland Owner Al Davis and NFL Commissioner Pete Roselle…..whereby Davis wants to move his Raiders to Los Angeles from Oakland…..which Roselle is vehemently opposed to……as Axethelm speculates what the Super Bowl trophy presentation is going to be like if the Raiders win Super Bowl XV.

The last half of this video actually has the 4th Quarter of the game….as we have no idea why it is on the final part of the pregame program by NBC….as we can only surmise that when this game was originally recorded back in the day…..the person recording filled up a 3 hour cassette tape with the 1st three quarters and halftime of the game…..therefore, using the balance of the pregame recording in order to keep the entire Super Bowl XV pregame and game time broadcast.

Regardless of how the format of this game was recorded…..each and every piece of footage surrounding Super Bowl XV is nothing but “pure gold” in our treasure chest of vintage memories for us here at ImaSportsphile…..cuz Bone Daddy, the original Sportsphile, was in attendance at the Louisiana Superdome to see this game live.
