This 1985 NFC Divisional Playoff Game was played on January 5, 1985 at Soldier Field in Chicago, IL….in front of 62,070 fans…..and was televised by CBS Sports with the legendary broadcast team of Pat Summerall and John Madden on the mike…..and Brent Musburger, Irv Cross and Jimmy “The Greek” Snyder in the wings.
The Bears’ defense dominated the game by allowing only 32 rushing yards and sacked Giants quarterback Phil Simms for 60 yards….as Simms was 14 for 35 for 209 yards….while running back Joe Morris….the NFL’s regular-season TD leader finished with 32 yards on 12 carries.
On offense, the Bears’ first TD happened as a result of Giants’ P Sean Landeta missing the snap….dang near missed the ball completely….a pure miss on their own 12-yard line…and Bears Shaun Gayle picked it up….and ran 5 yards for a touchdown. The Bears would score twice in the 3rd quarter on two TD tosses to Dennis McKinneon by QB Jim McMahon…who finished the game with 216 passing yards….while the Bears Sweetness….Walter Payton rushed for 94 yards.
It is our humble opinion that this was the best Bears team ever….featuring five NFL Hall of Fame Members in RB Walter Payton, DT/DE Dan Hampton, DE Richard Dent, LB Mike Singletary and Coach Mike Ditka…. plus they had four other starters who are Memobers of The College Football Hall of Fame with QB Jim McMahon, OT Jimbo Covert, DT Steve McMichael and LB Wilbur Marshall….and not to be left out of the Hall of Fame group….DT William “The Refrigerator” Perry was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006…..for this was the team that filmed the rapp video The Super Bowl Shuffle”….and that makes any NFL fan understand that they just have to watch this video herewith. ENJOY!!!
