This NBC Pregame Show for the 1985 NFL AFC Divisional Championship between the New England Patriots vs. Los Angeles was hosted by the NFL ’85 crew of Bob Costas, Ahmad Rashad and Pete Axthelm….along with their legendary broadcast team of Dick Enberg and Merlin Olsen.
As a side note, the sports world lost one of the all-time great broadcasters, Dick Enberg, on December 29, 2017….and this video…like so many others in our vintage library…is dedicated to his memory….for he was a one of a kind who could be behind the mike at any and all sporting events….and we are so blessed at ImaSportsphile to have so much of his talented work to display in our video museum….so, thanks for the memories….and RIP Dick Enberg.
This pregame show is chocked full of interesting and enjoyable content….as Costas and Axthelm kick off the program with analysis of the upcoming game….which is followed by Enberg and Olsen showing highlights of both teams on how they made it to this game….as this part is followed by NBC’s Larry King, the nationally syndicated interview host covering the “no love lost here” history of Pats owner Billy Sullivan and Raiders’ owner Al Davis. The program then shifts to Ahmad Rashad interviewing the Raiders’ future Hall of Fame DE Howie Long and outstanding LB Matt Millen….which shifts to a special piece narrated by Pete Axthelm regarding the Patriots history of “myths and superstitions”…..as all this pregame content combines for a very interesting and enjoyable video to watch. ENJOY!!!
