CBS Sports At The Half Team of Brent Musburger, 49’ers QB Joe Montana and Tom Brookshire assess the 1st half of play in the 1986 NFC Divisional Playoff game between the Dallas Cowboys vs Los Angeles Rams in this video herewith…..in a game where running back Eric Dickerson led the Rams to a victory by scoring two touchdowns….and recording a playoff record 248 rushing yards….while LA’s defense held the Cowboys to 243 yards….and forced six turnovers. Rams defensive end Gary Jeter finished the game with three sacks, while safety Jerry Gray had a fumble recovery and an interception.
By 1975 at CBS, Musburger went from doing NFL play-by-play…and other items, mostly on CBS’ Sports Saturday/Sunday programs….while rising to prominence as the host of the network’s National Football League studio show, The NFL Today…..which also included halftime shows….whereas 49’ers QB Joe Montana was in the middle of his Hall of Fame career when he joined Musberger and Tom Brookshire for this halftime show….as “Joe Cool” was noted for his ability to remain calm under pressure….when Montana helped his teams to 32 fourth-quarter come-from-behind victories in his career….so, he knew what he was talking about when he talks about what the Cowboys had to do to get back in this game. The 3rd member of the halftime show, Tom Brookshire….who was paired with Pat Summerall throughout the decade of the 1970’s for CBS NFL telecasts…..prior to moving to the studio desk for The NFL Today with Musburger.
