I have posted many “special” programs in the 1500 videos that are currently contained in Imasportsphile….especially in the NFL section….and this particular 3 part video series “Big Game America” stands out as one of my very favorites….for in the first place, Burt Lancaster, the star of many incredible roles like Elmer Gantry, The Sweet Smell of Success, Trapeze, The Birdman of Alcatraz, Atlantic City and Run Silent, Run Deep….is the host of this wonderful look at how the NFL game became Big Game America….as it takes a look at pro football from the original days of the Los Angeles Wildcats, Cleveland Panthers, Brooklyn Horsemen, NY Yankees, Boston Shamrocks and Philadelphia Quakers….and brings the viewer through to the NFL game as it became after TV telecasts came into play….and how it evolved into the game that we know it today….for it truly is Big Game America.
The vintage footage that is contained in this video is priceless….for the viewer doesn’t often find these original clips…which are really enjoyable to watch….featuring players like Jim Thorpe, Johnny Blood, George Halas, Slingin Sammy Baugh….and innovations like the Redskin Band…the T-formation….and much more.
