NFL – Special – Preview Of 1979 Season – Featuring Roger Staubach & Bill Bergey & Jane Kennedy

DOG ASIDE:

This special CBS program previews the upcoming 1979 NFL season with hosts Brent Musberger, Irv Cross and Jane Kennedy….who were the in studio broadcasting crew for NFL Today….as this video introduces this program called “Passport to Pasadena”.

The video begins with a look at the relationship between Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Tom Landry with his team leader QB Roger Staubach….as they prepare for the upcoming season after a loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship the year before.  The next CBS feature is hosted by Jane Kennedy….who begets comments from our viewers regarding how good looking she was by simply saying…..Mmmmmmmmmm…..as Jane gives the viewers an inside look at the “training and torture” that nearly 3000 NFL players go thruough during the six weeks of training camp prior to the opening of the season.  Then, Irv Cross brings the viewer a piece on the relationship between Philadelphia Eagles Coach Dick Vermeil and his MLB Bill Bergey….which is interesting in its own right.

I especially like the piece on Eagles LB Bill Bergey….cuz Bone Daddy spent six weeks in a different training camp with Bergey….at US-ROTC Officers Basic Training camp at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma in the middle of July / August 1964….for I have written a story that will appear in L. E. Stories Section in early 2018 that tells about a “power struggle” in Company C between the future NFL All Pro LB at 6′ 4″ 245 lb and future 1965 NCAA Wrestling Champion Mike Nelson at 5′ 11″ 158 lb…. in what turned out to be a most surprising outcome.

Anyway you cut the pie….this video is well worth the watch.
