DOG ASIDE:

This Wednesday, August 8, 1984 ABC Sports telecast of Day 12 at the Los Angeles Olympics includes some of the outstanding athletes at these games including USA diver Greg Loughanis in the 3m springboard competition…..USA sprinter Carl Lewis in the men’s track 200m finals…..Great Britian’s Daley Thompson in the men’s decathlon competition…..France’s Pierre Quinon and the USA’s Mike Tully and Earl Bell in the pole vault finals…..and USA featherweight boxer Meldrick Taylor and welterweight Mark Breland in their qualifying bouts….just to name a few athletes being showcased in this video.

When you consider the line-up of sportscasters that ABC Sports features….O J Simpson and Al Michaels for track….with Dwight Stone for field events….then Keith Jackson and Digger Phelps for basketball…. along with Howard Cosell for boxing…..and Jim McKay at the diving competition….and you’ve got a cast of sports broadcasters that reads like a “Who’s Who” of legendary voices at the mike.  So, when you add this to the mix of historic performance featured with this video….Carl Lewis winning his 3rd of 4 gold medals he won at L A to tie what Jesse Owens accomplished in 1936 in Berlin….while Italy sprinter Pietro Mennea made the men’s 200m dash finals for the 4th consecutive Olympics….along with probably the greatest Olympic diver in history, USA Greg Loughanis, as he ran away with the 3m springboard diving competiton….plus 17 year old featherweight boxer Meldrick Taylor winning his match on way to his gold medal….and the USA men’s basketball team, Dream Team II, soundly trouncing Canada in the semi-final game…..then you have what we call around ImaSportsphile as MUST SEE TV!!!
