The 1984 USA Olympic Basketball Team was the last of the group to be 100% made up of collegiate players who were true amateurs….as the original Dream Team of the best players in the country….be it amateur or professional….were to show up at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. This final all amateur US team might very well have also been the best amateur team ever put together….as it comprised of three future NBA Hall of Fame and Top 50 NBA Players of all time in Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing and Chris Mullin….plus some of the best college players of all time in Steve Alford, Wayman Tisdale and Leon Woods. When you consider that this team was coached by Bobby Knight….one of the greatest college coaches of all time….and it is easy to make a case for this bunch being the last and best all amateur Olympic men’s basketball team.
