DOG ASIDE:

John Patrick Lyon (born 9 March 1962) is a retired boxer from Great Britain….who was a member of the Greenall St. Helens Amateur Boxing Club….when he twice competed at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and 1988 Seoul Olympics…..along with winning the gold medal in the men’s flyweight division (– 48 kg) at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland.  Lyon won eight English ABA titles, four flyweight and four light-flyweight. Lyon won the bronze in the 1991 Acropolis Cup….retiring immediately afterwards.  He was awarded an MBE for services to amateur boxing.  Lyon’s son Craig Lyon….also won the English light-flyweight title, twice….and competed in the Prizefighter tournament at super-flyweight in 2011….but was defeated by Ryan Farrag in the quarter finals.

Paul Garza Gonzales (born April 18, 1964 in Pecos, Texas) was a Mexican American boxer….who won the light flyweight gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics….then began his professional career in 1985…and went on to challenge Bantamweight legend Orlando Canizales for the IBF Bantamweight title in 1990….in a rematch of a 1986 bout in which Gonzales won by unanimous decision.
