Meldrick Taylor (born October 19, 1966 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is a former Olympic gold medalist and world boxing champion in two weight classes….as Taylor is one of many boxing champions hailing from the city of Philadelphia learned his craft in the gyms of his hometown….posting a 99-4 record as an amateur fighter. In 1984, Taylor earned a spot on the 1984 U.S. Olympic team at the age of 17….claiming the gold medal in the featherweight division as follows…..by defeated Nicolae Talpos (Romania) 5-0….followed by his defeat of Francisco Camacho (Mexico) 5-0…..then he took down John Wanjau (Kenya) RSC 3…..followed by the fight on this video where he defeated Omar Catari Peraza of Venezuela by the score of 5-0….which advanced Taylor to the gold medal fight with Peter Konyegwachie of Nigeria in a 5-0….winning the gold medal at the tender age of 17.
