Olympics – 1984 Los Angeles – Equestrian – Show Jumping Individual – Jump Off For Gold – USA Conrad Homfeld & USA Joe Fargis

DOG ASIDE:

The equestrian show jumping solo competition at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics was one of the closest competitions in Olympic history…..as three contestants participated in a jump-off for the bronze medal….with Swiss Heidi Robbiani winning bronze…..plus another jump-off for the gold and silver medals in the solo competition between two Americans…..Conrad Homfeld on Abdullah and Joe Fargis on Touch of Class.

Conrad Homfeld is an American show jumping competitor and Olympic champion….who at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles….won the gold medal as part of the United States team in Team jumping with the horse Abdullah….and as seen in this video clip….Homfeld received a silver medal in Individual jumping…..after losing a jump-off round to teammate Joe Fargis.  Homfeld later transitioned to a career in show jumping course design.

Joseph Halpin Fargis IV is an American show jumping champion….who participated in the 1984 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles….where he won a gold medal in individual jumping with the American-bred Thoroughbred, bay, mare Touch of Class…..as this combo also participated on the American gold medal winning team in the Team Jumping.  Four years later in 1988 in Seoul, Korea…..where he finished second while riding the Irish bred, liver chestnut, mare, Mill Pearl.  Fargis now lives and trains in Middleburg, Va and has been doing various clinics and lessons….as he recently won the $5,000 welcome stake on July 19, 2012 at the Chagrin Valley Hunter Jumper Classic….and the $30,000 Duke Children’s Grand Prix on November 9, 2013.
