Olympics – 1984 Los Angeles – Track – Mens 3000 m Steeple Chase Finals

DOG COMMENTARY:

What I learned from Bone Daddy…..and have found to be true in my life as a sportsphile….is that sports have proven over and over to me…..to really pull at my “heartstrings”….cuz it brings out a purity that is not often found in HUMAN endeavors….just the simple purity of giving all you have…..and then some….only to fall just short of the “medal stand” in a puddle of exhaustion…and get back up….and since it didn’t kill the person…..they got stronger…..and I love the way sports does that for many people who go out on the fields of play while giving every ounce of competitiveness that exists in their bodies…..and dust themselves off…..cuz they can’t wait to get back into the fray.

This video encompasses the story of Henry Marsh…..who was the best in the world at his event the 3000 m steeple chase (a truly grueling sport) for the better part of 12 years…..being ranked #1 in the world in 1981, 1982 and 1987…..and in the top 10 in the world for those 12 years….who was denied his best chance at a gold medal in 1980…..because US President Jimmy Carter made an executive decision (not approved by the people) to boycott the Moscow….so Marsh continues to train and maintain his worldly status….in order to have another chance at an Olympic medal.

You watch this video…..and knowing what I just told you…..you will see a wonderful example provided by Henry Marsh’s effort in giving all that he had….and then some…..and collapsing in a puddle of exhaustion…..just 0.19 seconds behind his teammate Brian Diemer for the bronze medal…..and tell me you don’t agree with this commentary!?!
