Olympics – 1984 Los Angeles – Track – Mens 800m Semi Finals – Heats 1 & 2

DOG ASIDE:

The men’s 800 m semi-finals consisted of two heats….with each heat being loaded with world class talents.  Heat 1 featured the young sensation from Brazil Joaquim Cruz….the experienced former world record holder from Great Britain Steve Ovett….the top American and NCAA Champion Earl Jones….and Kenya’s emerging star Edwin Koech….as this heat was so fast that although the top four from each heat qualify for the finals….the times of 5th place Omar Khalifa of the Sudan….and Moussa Fall of Senegal….were faster than the time posted by current world record holder GBR Sebastian Coe….who along with Kenya’s Billy Konchellah, USA’s Johnny Gray and Italy’s Monato Sabia followed Coe into the finals from the 2nd Heat.
