10 AUG 1984: THE SPANISH AND AUSTRALIAN WATER POLO TEAMS IN ACTION AT THE 1984 LOS ANGELES OLYMPICS.
DOG COMMENTARY:
The finals in the men’s water polo competition at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics on Friday, September 10th…had the opportunity to set US Olympic history….as the USA teams had never won the gold medal in their 80 years of competing in the Olympics. At the end of the 3rd period, the USA had a 5 – 3 lead over Yugoslavia…..with this event being brought to the viewer by ABC’s Tim Brant and Jim Kruse (former USA water polo Olympic player)…..who really educates the viewer on the rules of water polo. The US looked to have the game under control….with a two goal lead with 4 minutes 17 seconds left in the game.
Bone Daddy was in attendance at this game…..along with a sellout crowd of 6,000 fans to watch this finals competition….plus there were some 2,000 more fans on the hillside outside the Pepperdine University swim center…..for this was a rough and tough game with both teams scratching and clawing the whole way. Since Bone Daddy was the Intramural Manager for his fraternity at the University of Texas….he managed three University Intramural water polo championships….so he knew the sport really well….that is why when he called this a rough tough game….he knew what he was talking about.
USA’s Terry Schroeder scored a go ahead goal with 28 seconds left….but it was disallowed due to an offensive foul by Schroeder…..so, although the USA team finished undefeated in the tournament…..they lost the gold medal by total goal differential to Yugoslavia.
