DOG ASIDE:
Back in the mid-80’s….halftimes’ of the major televised NCAA games….especially bowl games….were used by the networks as time to showcase each team’s marching band, a little bit….then some highlights and 1st half analysis….usually followed about promos’ for each school playing in the game or their conference (as seen in this video herewith)….then a personal profile or highlight of some past performance at that event or broadcaster commentary…..and that would fill-up their halftime show.
In this video, the Iowa Marching Band is showcased at the start….a little bit….which if followed by a piece on the Big Ten Conference…and their 90 year success story…especially in this years’ men’s football and basketball…as this segment is full of memorable highlights….which is followed by a Dick Enberg commentary on the great broadcasters to call the Rose Bowl Game….Bill Stern, Mel Allen, Lindsey Nelson, Curt Gowdy as Enberg in his legendary way showed his joy and respect of being a part of that fraternity….and our video goes blank as he introduces the original halftime call by of the original call by broadcaster Graham MacNamee at the 1927 Rose Bowl….which is too bad.
This video is still worth the watch….cuz we just lost Dick Enberg in January 2018…whom we at ImaSportsphile consider to be a legendary sports broadcast of the highest regard…..as we have dozens of video of events with Dick Enberg on the call….of which he was a true master….and we at ImaSportsphile are honored to have videos featuring his wonderful talent with a mike in his hands.
