Swimming – 1986 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship – Austin, TX

DOG ASIDE:

The 1987 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships were contested in March 1987 at the Texas Swimming Center at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas….for the 64th annual NCAA-sanctioned swim meet to determine the team and individual national champions of Division I men’s collegiate swimming and diving in the USA….as the men’s and women’s titles would not be held at the same site until 2006.

Stanford once again topped the team standings….which was the Cardinal’s third consecutive and fourth overall men’s title….with USC coming in 2nd place…..Florida taking 3rd place….California University garnering 4th place….while the home team of the University of Texas Longhorns coming in 5th place.

This event was held at the newly constructed Texas Swimming Center…..and marked the start of a very succesful run by Lonhorn Men’s Swimming under head coach Eddie Reese…..whose teams have won 13 NCAA Swimming and Diving Titles from 1981 to the present.
