Tennis – 1986 – Wimbledon Mens Dbls Finals – Nystrom+Wilander Vs Fleming+Donnelly – 2nd + 3rd Sets

Heinz Günthardt and Balázs Taróczy were the defending Wimbledon men’s doubles champions….but they lost in the first round to Sammy Giammalva and Greg Holmes….while Sweden’s Joakim Nyström and Mats Wilander faced USA’s Gary Donnelly and Peter Fleming in the finals of this 1986 Wimbledon Championship.

Nystrom + Wilander reached these finals by defeating USA Ken Flack + Robert Seguso in the quarterfinals…..then dispatched South Africa’s Christo van Rensburg + USA Paul Annacone in the semifinals to reach these finals against USA’s Donnelly + Fleming….who defeated USA Martin Davis + NZL Brad Drewett in the quarters…..only to dismantle Swiss Jacob Hlasek + Czech Pavel Slozil in the semifinals.

This 1986 Wimbledon Men’s Doubles Finals would be won by the Swedes Mats Wilander + Joakin Nystrom over USA’s Gary Donnelly + Peter Fleming in three sets by a score of 7 – 6(7 – 4), 6 – 3 and 6 – 3… which would mark the 1st time that an all-Swedish team would win this title at Wimbledon.

Any way you cut the pie….this is top-shelf tennis that provides plenty of justification for any and all tennis fans to watch….ENJOY!!!
