Tennis – 1986 – Wimbledon Mens Finals – Boris Becker Vs Ivan Lendl

DOG COMMENTARY:

The 1986 Wimbledon Championships was a tennis tournament played on grass courts at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London in England.  It was the 100th edition of the Wimbledon Championships….and were held from 23 June to 6 July 1986.

This year at Wimbledon will be remembered for many things….as one of our favorite pieces of Sportsphile trivia is it was the first time that yellow balls were used during the tournament. In recognition of the 100th championship….the two oldest living singles champions were invited to present the singles championship trophies….Jean Borotra, who won the 1924 and 1926 Wimbledon…presented the gentlemen’s singles….while Kitty Godfree, who won in 1924….presented the ladies’, both alongside the President of the All England Club and his wife, their Royal Highnesses’ The Duke and Duchess of Kent.

Boris Becker successfully defended his title….by defeating Ivan Lendl in the final….6 – 4, 6 – 3, 7 – 5 in the final to win the Gentlemen’s Singles tennis title at this 1986 Wimbledon Championships….after having faced CZEC Miloslav Mecir in the quarters….followed by defeating FRA Henri Leconte in the semifinals….whereas Lendl took down USA Tim Mayotte in the quarterfinals….and Slobodan Zivojinic in the semifinals….which all led to the finals between Boris Becker verses Ivan Lendl.

This video provides awesome tennis….and a look at the two youngest players to ever win the Men’s Wimbledon Title….at age 17….and at age 18….as Boris Becker won his 2nd Wimbledon….so this match is nothing but pure history….and for any true tennis fan….it is MUST SEE TV!!
