This CBS Sports Journey In Time special features highlights of the year in track and field….. which focuses first on USSR pole vaulter Serbey Bubka, who was the best in the world for 21 years from 1993 to 2914, when his world indoor record of 6.15 meters (20.177 ft) stood for two decades before Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie vaulted 6.16.  Also featured in this video is world record holding 400m hurdles champion USA Edwin Moses as he extends his streak of winning races to 119….and then comes coverage of babies being born to USA middle distance champion Mary Decker Slaney and USA sprint champion Evelyn Ashford.  Mary Decker Slaney set 36 US national records at distances ranging from 800 meters to 10,000 meters….and has held the US record in the mile, 2000 meters and 3000 meters since the early 1980’s….while her 1500 meters record stood for 32 years.  Evelyn Ashford was ranked # 1 in the world by Track & Field News over 100 meters in 1979 and 1981…. and over 200 meters in 1981. She also was named Track and Field News “Athlete of the Year” twice, in 1981 and 1984.
