So, tell me…..is there anyone who was alive back in the 1960’s. 1970’s and 1980’s that doesn’t remember George Whipple and “please don’t squeeze my Charmin” …..for Mr. George Whipple was a fictional supermarket manager featured in television commercials, radio and print advertisements that ran from 1964 to 1985 for Charmin toilet paper…..when Mr. Whipple typically scolds customers who “squeeze the Charmin toilet tissue in his store” while hypocritically entertaining such actions himself when he thinks no one will notice….as the very first commercial featuring Mr. Whipple set the tone of the advertising campaign….which Advertising Age designated as among the top 100 campaigns of the 20th century.
